Neil Robbins ran the steeplechase for Australia at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Robbins broke the Australian record for the event in both the heat and final, which stood for six years. He also ran the 6-mile race at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, but did not finish.
Domestically Robbins was 1952 Australian cross-country champion and won numerous Victorian state titles. He competed for Williamstown Athletic Club and trained at Melbourne University under Franz Stampfl. Robbins worked at Shell for 35 years, starting off as an industrial chemist and in later years was their marketing manager.
