Biography

Warwick Selvey was an Australian weight thrower who competed at the 1960 and 1964 Olympic Games. He competed at the 1962 Commonwealth Games, winning the shot put and finishing fourth in the discus. Selvey won 18 Australian Championships between 1960-73, seven in the shot put (1960-64, 1966-67) and 11 in the discus throw (1960, 1962-67, 1970-73). The 18 titles is an Australian record for men. Selvey also set 11 Australian records in the discus throw between 1960-67. Selvey worked on Australia’s Gold Coast as an osteopath, chiropractor, and acupuncturist, but later retired to Thailand, where he died from cardiac arrest after hip replacement surgery.

Personal Bests: SP – 17.35 (1962); DT – 58.90 (1967).
