Athlete Sigrid Kirchmann was Austrian champion in high jump (1982-1984, 1986-88, 1990-91, 1993-94) heptathlon (1986, 1994). She qualified for the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics in high jump and placed fifth. At the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics Kirchmann suffered an Achilles tendon rupture when stepping in and could not start the competition.
Kirchmann won high jump bronze medals at the 1993 World Championships (first Austrian medal at World Championships) and the 1995 European Indoor Championships. That same year Kirchmann placed eighth at the World Indoors. In 1988 and 1990 she came fourth at the European Outdoor Championships.
Sigrid Kirchmann later graduated at the University of Salzburg and lived with her husband Jürgen Ortner and their two daughters in Schlierbach, where she worked as a teacher.
