Austrian middle and long-distance runner Dietmar Millonig won 40 Austrian titles in 1,500 metres (1973, 1976, 1978-79), 5,000 metres (1975-1977, 1980-1984, 1988, 1990-1992), 10,000 metres (1979-1982, 1984-85, 1991, 1993), 25 km road running (1986, 1991), half marathon (1992), cross country-short (1975, 1978-79, 1986), cross country-long (1980, 1993), and 3×1,000 metres relay (1974, 1976-1979, 1981, 1985).
Millonig was selected for the 5,000 metres at both the 1980 Moskva (Moscow) and 1988 Seoul Olympics. At Moskva he placed a very impressive sixth place, and in Seoul failed to reach the final. In 1986, he won the gold medal over 3,000 metres at the European Indoor Championships.
Millonig later started a coaching career and became sport marketing manager at Nike Austria. His daughters Lena and Julia also became middle and long-distance runners, and his brother Hubert was his former coach.
