Bill Rea was Austrian long jump champion in 1980, and was subsequently selected for the 1980 Moskva (Moscow) Olympics, but was eliminated in the qualification. He was one of only three American-born athletes at the 1980 Summer Games, along with Mike Sylvester and Wayne Brabender, who participated despite the American boycott of these Games. Originally Rae had dual citizenship as his father was American, but he took Austrian citizenship because his mother was Austrian. Sylvester and Brabender represented Italy and Spain respectively at Moskva.
