Johann Wotapek was Austrian shot put champion in 1939-40 and 1943, and discus champion 1935-1937, 1939, and 1943. After the Nazi German “Anschluss” of Austria, he became German discus champion from 1940-42. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics Wotapek finished ninth in the discus and did not start in the shot despite being selected for the event. Domestically, he represented Christlich-Deutsche Turnerschaft Wien (Vienna).
