Belgian track and field athlete Philippe Coenjaerts specialised in middle-distance races, in which he won several national titles. Coenjaerts won his first Belgian title in 1926 in the 800 metres, going on to win the title every year up to and including 1930. He was also the national champion in the 1,500 metres in 1927 and 1928. At the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics Coenjaerts ran in the 800 metres and the 4 × 400 metres relay but did not advance from the heats in either race.
