During the 1920s Jean Hénault dominated the high jump in Belgium, winning nine titles and setting multiple national records. Hénault won the national high jump title every year in the 1920s apart from 1927. He first broke the Belgian high jump record in 1921 when he cleared 1.76 metres. By June 1924 he had improved the height to 1.86 metres, with the record standing until 1948. Hénault competed at the 1920 Antwerpen Olympics and the 1924 Paris Olympics but did not emulate his national success. In Antwerpen he finished in joint-16th place with a best clearance of 1.65 metres, and in Paris he finished in equal-tenth place, clearing 1.80 metres.
