Biography

Antônio de Carvalho was a Brazilian track and field athlete who competed in sprint events. Carvalho competed in the 400 metres at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but was eliminated in the heats. The following year he won gold in the same event at the South American Championships in Athletics in São Paulo. His performance earned him a place on the Brazilian delegation for the 1937 Pan American Games, an early unofficial precursor to the multi-sport event that had its first edition in 1951 in Buenos Aires.
