Franco Marquicias was a member of the Filipino national basketball team that captured gold at the 1927 and 1934 Far Eastern Games. The team placed fifth at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, only defeated by the eventual winner, the United States. Marquicias was player-coach of the Heacock’s Speed Merchants’ team as runner-up in the MICAA, at the time the country’s leading amateur league. Later, he was appointed athletic director of the MICAA. During the 1970s, Marquicias was chief security officer of Manila’s Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
