Biography

Chilean track and field athlete Carlota Ulloa was a good all-round competitor who won multiple medals at the South American Championships, in addition to setting several national records. Ulloa’s first international success came at the 1962 Ibero-American Games in Madrid, where she won gold as part of the quartet that won the 4 x 100 metres relay. Two years later at the South American Championships in Brazil she won gold in the long jump, silver in the 80 metres hurdles, and bronze in the 4 x 100 metres relay. She then captured gold in the 80 metres hurdles at the 1967 South American Championships, and narrowly missed out on a medal at that year’s Pan American Games when she came fourth in the 80 metres hurdles. The following year Ulloa ran in the 80 metres hurdles at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, but she did not advance beyond the heats. At her third and final appearance at the South American Championships in 1969 she retained her title in the 80 metres hurdles and won bronze in the pentathlon. During her career Ulloa set Chilean records in the long jump, 80 metres hurdles, pentathlon, and the 4 x 100 metres relay. In 1964 she was named as the leading figure in women’s athletics by the Chilean Athletics Federation before being named as the best athlete in athletics by the Circle of Sports Journalists of Chile in 1966.

Personal Best: 80H – 11.13 (1968).
