Biography

Miguel Castro was a Chilean track and field athlete who specialised in middle and long-distance running. Castro won gold in the 1,500 metres and 3,000 metres at the 1935 South American Championships in Athletics in Santiago, Chile. The following year he ran in the 1,500 metres at the 1936 Berlin Olympics but did not advance from the heats. After the Olympics he continued to have success at the South American Championships in Athletics, winning gold in the 1,500, 3,000, and 5,000 metres at the 1939 edition in Lima, Peru. Four years later he won silver in both the 3,000 and 5,000 metres at the 1943 championships in Santiago.

Personal Best: 1500 – 3:56.8 (1938).
