Guillermo Solá made his international début for Chile at the 1951 Pan American Games, where he took silver in the 1,500 metres event behind Browning Ross of the United States and came in fifth in the 3,000 metres steeplechase. His next stop was the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where he was scheduled to compete in both events, but only started in the latter and was eliminated in the heats. Earlier that year, he had been crowned South American champion in the steeplechase. In 1953 he defended his title, set a new South American record, and also won the 1,500 metres. In 1954, he was South American runner-up in both events, but went on to win gold in steeplechase at the 1955 Pan American Games, this time coming in fifth in the 1,500 metres. At that year’s South American Championships, he earned bronze in the 1,500 metres, and then retired from active competition.
Personal Best: 3000S – 9:16.0 (1954).
