Situ Guang

Situ Guang was a triple jumper from the Guangdong province. In Guangzhou, he attended the Peizheng (Pui Ching) Middle School and later the Lingnan University, an art school, which had to move to Hong Kong after the Japanese invasion in 1938. Situ won several championships at the Guangdong Provincial Games. At the 1930 and 1933 National Games Situ claimed consecutive titles in the triple jump, and in 1930 placed second in the long jump. He won the first title jumping a national record of 14.192 m and in 1931 improved the record to 14.37 m achieved at the Lingnan University Games. Situ also represented China at the 1930 Far Eastern Games and placing forth in the triple jump scored the first point for China in the official team score. At the 1936 Berlin Olympics, however, he failed to qualify for the semifinal in both of his events.

Situ continued to live in Hong Kong and became an athletics coach. He was also an ardent photographer. Later, he worked at the St. Paul’s Co-educational School and served as chairman of the Hong Kong Inter-School Table Tennis Competition Team.
