José Meneses

José Meneses was known for his shooting prowess, earning him the nickname “The Gun,” or “Pistolas.” Meneses studied at the the School of Physical Education of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua. During his career he played on 10 national championship teams, and won one Octagonal Basketball title. Meneses played for Mexico at the 1952 Olympics, and helped them win the gold medal at the 1950 and 1954 Central American Games and the 1955 Pan-American Games. He was chosen for the 1956 Olympics, but a facial injury requiring surgery prevented him from competing and he retired shortly thereafter. A sports gym just north of Chihuaha was named in his honor.
