Biography

Anders Hartington Andersen was a Danish long-distance runner who achieved his best results in the 20km and marathon races. Andersen began his career representing an athletics club in Roskilde where he won silver in the 10,000 metres at the Danish championships in 1927 and 1928. In 1930 he emigrated to Canada where he ran for Altoma Calgary in preparation for the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. At the Games in Los Angeles he ran in the marathon, finishing a credible tenth. By 1934 he had returned home to his native Denmark, winning the 20km and marathon races at that year’s national championships. Andersen won four more national titles in the 20km (1935–37), along with two more in the marathon (1936, 1939). He ran in the marathon at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he finished 25th.
