Nephew of Javier Adarraga-Gorrochategui, gold medallist in the demonstration event of Pelota in 1924 Summer Olympics. Brothers Bernardino (gold medalist in decathlon at the 1955 Mediterranean Games) and Fernando (silver medalist in pole vault at the 1959 Mediterranean Games) were selected for Spain in the Summer Olympic Games of 1956 and 1960 respectively, though neither eventually competed.
