Alfonso de Andrés won eight consecutive Spanish national championships in the javelin from 1960-67, and also set eight Spanish national records with the spear. In his short career he competed internationally for Spain 39 times, including, in addition to his Olympic participation in Roma in 1960, a gold medal with the javelin at the 1962 Ibero-American Games, a bronze at that event in 1960, and a silver medal in 1967 at the Mediterranean Games.
