Aarvo Hilli’s track and field athletics career was relatively brief, but it included representing Finland in the 400 metres hurdles at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, where he was eliminated in the quarter-finals. He was also a reserve with the 4x400 metres relay, but did not take part. Domestically, he took silver in that event at the national championships in 1952 and bronze in 1953. He became much better known later in life as a masters’-level tennis player, a sport in which he served as an administrator, and received a bronze medal at the European Championships in the 55+ category. He continued to compete at that level into his 80s and, by career, was a veterinarian.
Personal Best: 400H – 53.9 (1952).
