Biography

Finnish track and field athlete Martti Luomanen represented Jyväskylän Kisa-Toverit where he competed in middle-distance races. Luomanen won silver in the 1,500 metres at the 1931 Finnish championships, with a bronze the following year. He also won gold that year at in the 4 x 1,500 metres relay at the national championships. He ran in the 1,500 metres at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics, finishing ninth in the final. After his athletics career Luomanen served as a representative of the Social Democratic Party of Finland (SDP) in the local municipal council.
