Finnish track and field athlete Hannu Rantala represented Mäntän Urheilijat where he competed in both the high jump and the triple jump. At the Finnish athletics championships Rantala won silver in the high jump in 1954 and 1955, followed by silver in the triple jump in 1958 and 1960. He also had success at the TUL championship, becoming the high jump champion in 1953 and 1964, and the champion in the triple jump in 1959. He twice competed in the triple jump at the Olympics, finishing 19th at the 1956 Melbourne Games and 22nd four years later at the Roma Games.
