Biography

Mauno Tarkiainen was a Finnish long-distance runner who specialised in the marathon. Tarkiainen was selected to run in the event at the 1936 Berlin Olympics where he finished ninth. He won the national marathon title in 1938 and 1939, and finished second in 1940 and third in 1937. Tarkiainen also had two top-ten finishes in the Stockholm marathon, finishing fourth in 1939 and sixth in 1941.
