Biography

Nicole Goullieux took up track athletics in 1949 and came to specialize in the 800 metres and cross-country events. In the former, she won French national titles in 1952, 1953, 1957, 1958, 1959, and 1962, as well as a gold medal at the 1959 Summer Universiade. She also represented her country at the 1960 Rome Olympics, where she was eliminated in round one. In the latter, she captured an additional five titles: 1956, 1959, 1960, 1961, and 1963. She was also runner-up at the nationals across both disciplines seven times and improved the French record in the 800 metres three times. She stopped competing internationally in 1963, but did not fully retire from competition until 1966. By career, she ran a pharmacy. Her father, Robert, also represented France in the 800 metres at the 1920 Antwerp Games.
