Biography

French track and field athlete Gérard Fenouil represented AC Paris-Joinville where he specialised in sprinting. Fenouil, Jocelyn Delecour, Claude Piquemal, and Roger Bambuck won the bronze medal in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. Fenouil also reached the semi-finals in the 100 metres at the Mexico City Games. His success continued with victory in the 4 × 100 metres relay at the 1969 European Athletics Championships where he ran with Alain Sarteur, Patrick Bourbeillon, and non-Olympian François St.-Gilles. Fenouil also became the French champion in the 200 metres in 1969, a title he went on to retain the following year. He was again part of the French relay quartet when they ran in the 4 × 100 metres at the 1972 München Olympics where the team finished in seventh place. Fenouil was married to Martine Ivangine, who competed in speed skating at the 1968 Grenoble Olympics.
