Biography

Émile Gontier was French champion in shot put (1897 with 10.18 m), pole vault (1898, 1900, and 1901), and discus throw (1898 and 1901 with 31.59 m). He also finished second in pole vault (1896, 1897, and 1899). Gontier also set French records in pole vault with 2.985 and 3.00 both in 1898 and discus throw with 24.69 and 30.34 both in 1897 and 31.09 and 31.47 both in 1898.
