Biography

Jules Ladoumègue won a silver medal in the 1,500 metres at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, but to some in the French media it was a disappointment. A 19-time international for France, Ladoumègue responded by going on a world record spree in 1930-31. In October 1930 he set world records in the 1,500 metres (3:49.2) and 1,000 metres (2:23.6), then in the summer-fall of 1931 he broke the world records for the mile (4:09.2), 2,000 metres (5:21.8), and the ¾-mile (3:00.6).

Ladoumègue would have been favored in the 1,500 at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics but French officials banned him for allegedly receiving appearance fees. As a professional he bettered the listed world record for ¾-mile, running 2:59.2 in 1933. He later became a sports journalist.

Personal Best: 1500 – 3:49.2 (1930).
