André Marie

André Marie was a specialist in the 110 metres hurdles who won five consecutive French national champions in that event from 1947 through 1951. He made his international début in 1946 and, two years later, represented France in the 110 metres hurdles at the London Olympics, where he failed to complete his semi-final heat and was eliminated. He had much better luck at the 1950 European Championships, where he won the gold medal. He improved the French record three times over the course of his career and retired in 1951, after which he worked as an architectural designer. Nonetheless, he remained active in the administration of athletics and served as president of Groupement des Internationaux Français d’Athlétisme from 1979 through 1983.
