Biography

Kay Long finished second to Bevis Reid in the 1948 WAAAs javelin competition, losing by just 10cm. Reid won all three throwing events at that year’s championship and was chosen for the discus and shot at the Olympics. Long was selected for the javelin and was joined by Gladys Clarke, who finished third at the WAAAs. The two British throwers occupied the last two places in the Olympic final, with Long finishing 14th and Clarke 15th.
