Averil Williams was a Welsh javelin and discus thrower who competed at the 1960 Roma Olympics in the javelin throw. She competed at the 1958 and 1970 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, winning a bronze medal in the javelin in 1958. She competed for England in 1958 and for Wales in 1970. Williams was WAAA champion in 1957-58 and was Welsh Champion in the javelin in 1962 and 1970-71. She set three British records in the javelin in 1958 and later set six Welsh records with the spear, from 1962 to 1970. She was capped 27 times and competed at Masters’ events into the 1990s. Williams was later a team manager, coach, official, and administrator for the Welsh Women’s AAA.
