Norman Biddulph

Norman Biddulph won the Northern Counties two-miles steeplechase three times (1926-28) but never finished in the top six at the AAA Championship. He also won the Lancashire two miles (flat) championship in 1926. Biddulph started his athletics career as a cross-county runner with the Hallamshire team that dominated the sport in the north of England in the early 1920s, and turned out to be a very popular member of the Club. Shortly after the 1928 Olympics, Biddulph married Ivy Cottrill, the niece of 1912 Olympian William Cottrill. Norman ran the Royal Oak public house at Eyam, in Derbyshire’s Peak District, for many years and was active in the Derbyshire branch of the Hallamshire Harriers as well as being involved in organising local charity fund-raising events.
