After winning the high jump at the LAC Schools’ Meeting in 1920 he was the winner for Oxford vs. Cambridge in 1923 and 1924. He also competed as a hurdler in the University Relay match in 1922 and 1923. While still at Oxford he placed equal third in the AAA high jump in 1923 and in 1924 he won both the high jump and triple jump at the English AAA Championships. After Oxford he practiced as a solicitor in Northumberland and in 1948 he was appointed a Governor of Harrow School.
