Jack Higginson won the AAA triple jump in 1924 and 1926. He won the Northern Counties title five times (1924-28), setting an English Native record in 1926. During the competition he improved in every round and in his record jump he took off nine inches behind the board. He died on the way to hospital, after he sustained a heart attack while taking a walk in his local park. His son, Jack Jr., was also a notable triple jumper, placing second at the AAA Championships in 1934-35, winning the Northern title six times (1933-37, 1939), and finishing fifth in the 1934 British Empire Games.
