After placing second in the AAA long jump in 1912, Philip Kingsford won the title in 1914 when he also finished fourth in the triple jump, which was being held at the Championships for the first time. Although he never approached the distances achieved by the Irish jumpers, in 1912 he record the best-ever triple jump by an English-born athlete. He served with the Middlesex Regiment in India.
