Ernest Larner placed fourth in the AAA 7 miles walk in 1908, in a race that saw his brother disqualified. Ernest was selected for both the Olympic walking events that year and reached the final of the 10 miles but finished fifth in a race won by George Larner. The son of a London plasterer, Ernst Larner became a librarian at Shepherd’s Bush library. He saw service with the Royal Army Medical Corps in World War I.
