Biography

Having placed sixth in the Polytechnic Harriers Trial race, Bertie Thompson was selected for the 1908 Olympic marathon but dropped out after 15 miles, suffering from an injured foot and the heat. He was, however, better known as a walker and was AAA 7 mile champion in 1907, having been runner-up in 1905-06. He served as President of both Ranelagh Harriers (1948-50) and the London AC (1951).
