While a medical student at Glasgow University, Haswell Wilson shared the Scottish high jump title in 1908 and won outright in 1909. At the 1908 Olympics he was eliminated in the qualifying rounds. He held the chair of pathology at the University of Birmingham for more than 25 years and was a vice-president of the University Athletic Club during that period. Professor Haswell Wilson was held in the highest regard by his peers, and The Lancet noted in his obituary that “his post-mortem technique was beautiful to watch..
