Although he never won a Scottish title, George Young placed second at 440 y (1909) and third 220 y (1909) and 440 y (1908). In 1909 he also finished second at 440 y in the Scotland vs. Ireland match. After winning his 400 heat at the 1908 Olympics, he placed last in his semi. During World War I, he won the MC serving as a lieutenant with the Australian Division.
