Sprinter Heilwig Jacob took part in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, in the 100 and 200 metres, but was eliminated in the second rounds in both. One year earlier she set a world record over 50 metres indoor. In 1964 and 1965 she won the East German indoor title over 50 m, also winning outdoors over 100 in 1964 (and was runner-up in the 200). She was married to decathlete Roland Jacob. Their daughter Sabine also became a sprinter, as well as their grand-daughter Eleni Frommann.
