Biography

Maritta Politz is married to Waldemar Cierpinski and the mother of Falk Cierpinski, not an Olympian, but a competitor at the 2009 World Championship marathon. Falk is a former triathlete, who won the 2007 Munich Marathon, and together with his father, Waldemar, they are the fastest father-son pair in marathon history as of 2012. Maritta Politz was herself East German Champion over 800 m indoors in 1972, and was runner-up outdoor the same year. She took part in the 1973 European Indoors, placing fifth.
