Middle-distance runner Barbara Wieck married soccer Olympic Champion Gerd Kische but they later divorced. She won the European Indoors in 1969 and placed third at the European Cup in 1970. Nationally she was East German Champion both outdoors and indoors, setting a new indoor world record (2:05.3) in the 800. She was eliminated in the heats at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics. By profession Wieck was a sports physician.
