Klaus-Peter Justus

East German middle distance runner Klaus-Peter Justus was eliminated in the semi-finals of the 1,500 at the 1972 München Games. He won the 1974 European Championships, placed seventh at the 1970 European Cup, and was third at that event in 1973. Justus also won 10 East German titles over different distances – 1,500 in 1970, 1972-75; 1,500 indoors in 1971-73, and 1976; and cross-country in 1970-71. He was educated as a sports teacher and worked at a high school in his hometown of Jena, and later became national coach of the Triathlon Association of Thuringia. His son Steffen became an avid triathlete, and was European Youth Champion in 2000, and Olympian in 2012.
