Shot putter Rudolf Langer finished 11th at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, and 14th at the 1962 European Championships. Domestically he claimed East German titles in 1961, 1963, 1964 and 1966, also winning indoors in 1964. In 1962 Langer became the first East German shot putter to better the 18 metre barrier. He was later married to his teammate Johanna Hübner-Lüttge. Langer was educated as a locksmith.
