Discus thrower Armin Lemme later became a sports teacher and athletics coach for technical disciplines with his home club of SC Magdeburg. In his youth he was a rower. Lemme qualified for the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games but did not reach the final. In 1981 he won both the European and the World Cup, and in 1982 placed fourth at the European Championships. He earned 13 international caps. Domestically Lemme won East German Championships in 1981 and 1982.
