Hammer thrower Manfred Losch, the brother of discus thrower Hartmut Losch, was eliminated in the qualification round at the 1960 Roma Olympic Games. He also participated in the European Championships in 1962 (10th) and 1966 (4th), and the European Cup in 1967 (5th). He was East German champion in 1964, and 1966-67. Losch also competed occasionally in the discus. After his athletic career, Losch became a high school physical education teacher and head teacher at the DHfK (German Sports High School) in Leipzig, where he received his doctorate.
