Sprinter Volker Löffler was a member of the German 1964 sprint relay team at the Tokyo Olympics that was eliminated in the semifinals. This was his only major international appearance except for seven team matches. He never won an East German title. Löffler was educated as an engineer for metal construction and in 1998 became Head of the Saxon State Office for Construction Engineering. After German reunification he became politically active for the left-wing party SPD in Delitzsch. Additionally he was an avid tennis player and a board member of his tennis club in Delitzsch.
