Max Weber’s major achievement was winning the bronze medal at the 1958 European Championships in Stockholm in the 50 km race walk, finishing in 4-19:58.6. At the 1960 Roma Olympics he placed 13th. Nationally he won nine East German championships over varying distances. He later became a coach in Leipzig and Berlin, and from 1964-68 was a member of the IAAF race walking committee.
