Biography

Javier Dorado was a Spanish footballer who began his career as a youth player with Real Madrid in 1996. After playing for the reserve team for several years Dorado made his senior début in the 1999–2000 season in a 1–1 draw against Valencia in February 2000. He only played in one other first-team match for the club before spending stints on loan with Salamanca and Sporting de Gijón. In 2002 Dorado signed with Rayo Vallecano before rejoining Sporting de Gijón the following year, going on to play in more than 100 matches for the club. His last domestic matches were with Atlético Baleares in the 2011–12 season.

Dorado also played for the Spanish under-21 team, including four matches in the qualification campaign for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Although Spain qualified for the Olympics, and Dorado was named in their squad, he did not play in any matches at the Games. He was only 48-years-old when he died from leukaemia in February 2025.
