Biography
Despite being uncapped, P. Hayden, outstanding at the heart of the Chorlton-cum-Hardy FC defence, was chosen as a non-travelling reserve for the 1908 Great Britain Olympic squad. Unlike many of his fellow squad members, who played for some well-known Football League clubs of the day, Hayden’s Chorlton team played in the Lancashire Amateur League. In 2018, that would be the equivalent of playing in the 13th tier of English football.
