The West German soccer team at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics was part of the mixed German team that was defeated 2-1 by the Soviet Union in the first round and immediately eliminated. Defender Günter Jäger was a substitute and did not play. From 1955-63 he played for Fortuna Düsseldorf, and from 1963-66 Wuppertaler SV. After the 1958 World Cup he played his only international match in a 2-1 win over Denmark. Jäger trained as a house painter.
