As a youth player, Wim Landman was a defender, but as a senior he became a goalkeeper. Starting out with Neptunus Rotterdam, he switched to local rival Sparta in 1949. He was called up to the national team for the 1948 Olympics, but remained a substitute in London, and would not win his first cap until 1952. After he was not selected for the national team in 1953, he spontaneously retired in protest. His return to football came in 1954, and he played for BVC Rotterdam, which after several mergers and name changes became Holland Sport. He was also called up again for the national team, eventually bringing his total to 7 caps. In 1959 it was found that he had been bribed in a 1956 match against BVV, receiving 2,500 guilders, and he was promptly suspended for 18 months. Landman returned in 1961, but retired after the 1962 season. Suffering from depression, he ended his life in 1975 by jumping in front of a train at Rotterdam Central Station.
